The Babno Plain

http://loskadolina.info/images/sobipro/entries/173/Babno%20Polje2.JPGThe Babno plain is situated in the Loka Valley. The settlement with the same name is located in a shady location and has an extremely cold climate; due to the closed nature of the basin, winters here are harsh, earning it the title of “Slovenian Siberia”. Due to a temperature inversion, the record low temperature of -35°C in Slovenia was recorded in Babno Polje in 2005. Even in summer, the temperatures remain low; for example, a temperature of -2.4°C was measured in Babno Polje in July, which is considered the warmest month.

Cave Golobina

http://loskadolina.info/images/sobipro/entries/59/1-golobina%20-%20Pri_tektonskem_zrcalu1.JPGGolobina is a Karst sinkhole water cave, which is situated in the north-west side of Loško polje at the Dane settlement. During the high-water mark the flood waters of Obrh stream flow into this cave, so it is inaccessible during floods. For visitors the cave is in most cases accessible all year round, and during prolonged dry weather conditions throughout entire known length.

Križna jama Cave

It is distinguished by underground lakes with calc-sinter partitions and the archaeological site of cave bear bones. The cave conveys water from the southern edge of Bloška  planota  towards the eastern edge of the Cerkniško polje. Bats hibernate in the cave during the winter. During the year many cave-dwelling animals can be observed (centipedes, amphipods, etc.), and pillar-like forms and shapes in the cave walls.
