Trail through the Logar Valley

The Trail through the Logar Valley is a natural history and ethnographic trail leading through the marvellous corners of the unspoilt nature of the landscape park. The numerous natural and ethnographic sights seen along the trail are sure to catch the eye of every visitor. The trail also brings people closer to nature. You can choose to explore the trail and the tranquil imagery of the park by yourself or you can opt for the services of local guides that will guide you through the wonderful world of nature and point out the numerous interesting features. The second source of the Savinja River, mighty boulders, a woodcutter’s and a charcoal-burner’s hut, a hunting blind and a giant juniper are some of them. The trail ends at Rinka Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in Slovenia, where you will be rewarded with the refreshing embrace of a fine mist.

Hiking

The Logar Valley, being situated in the centre of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, offers hiking enthusiasts numerous marked and unmarked, difficult and easier trails and walks. The Logar Valley is a popular starting point for climbing the two-thousand-metre mountains, among which, proudly flaunting their walls, are Ojstrica and Planjava. Tourist hiking has also become very popular in the Logar Valley. The two most visited destinations are the mountain hut on Okrešelj, which is accessible by a trail that runs past Rinka Falls, and the mountain hut on Klemenča jama, from which there is a wonderful view of the upper part of the Logar Valley.

Cycling

The main road in the Logar Valley leading from the entrance to the parking lot under Rinka Falls can be used for cycling. However, there is an interesting and diverse cycling route in Solčavsko that runs along a pleasant scenic route and takes you from Solčava to Podolševa and back to Solčava past the Logar Valley. The scenic route also connects to cycling routes towards Črna na Koroškem and Pavličevo sedlo. From here, you can cycle to Bad Eisenkappel and join the cycling routes in Austria or cycle past Jezersko and try to tackle the Alpine marathon route that rounds the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

If you are visiting the Logar Valley without your own bike, you can rent a mountain bike, or an electric bike for more leisurely cycling, at multiple locations.

Alpinism

With their two-thousand-metre peaks, the Kamnik-Savinja Alps provide numerous climbing opportunities at various levels of difficulty during the summer as well as during the winter. The starting points for the steep walls are located in the Logar Valley and in the neighbouring Matkov kot and Robanov kot. There are great climbing areas on the walls of Ojstrica, Planjava, Raduha and Mrzla gora. There are also smaller walls on Raduha and Solčavske peči (Klemenča, Golerjeva, Strevčeva), which drop down into the bed of the Savinja from Podolševa. Paragliding

The undulating relief of the Solcava District is well able to offer enthusiasts of this sport many an exhilarating experience. Suitable take-off locations are to be found at Strelovec (landing in the Robanov Kot Valley), Olševa (landing on the slopes above Solčava) and close to the Klemenšek homestead on the Panoramic road (landing in the Logarska Dolina.

Free climbing

Free climber's routes are located on the cliff at the beginning of the valley next to the Žohar homestead. The routes there are equipped with pegs and are of different difficulty levels.

Ice climbing

Hidden in the ravines above the Logarska Dolina Valley are more than twenty falls which in the height of winter provide challenging recreation to climbers who enjoy this sport. Among the most spectacular of these is the Palenk Waterfall, located in the central tract of the valley.

Sledding

There is a sledding area by the Christ the King Chapel in the Logar Valley and in the Logar Valley ski area. When the weather conditions are right, visitors can also use the sled track between Rinka Falls and the Logarski kot Herdsman’s Hut. There is no shortage of hills in Solčavsko down which you can sled to your heart’s content.

Cross country skiing

In winter conditions for cross-country skiing in the Logarska Dolina. Valley are excellent. There is a 13-km long marked and maintained circular track. Because of its configuration it is suitable for both beginners and more experienced skier alike. The route, which is very picturesque, leads through open meadows and forests passing a number of Logarska Dolina's natural attractions on the way.

Alpine skiing

Next to many other sports activities in winter time you can also go skiing in Solcavsko.Poleg ostalih športnih aktivnosti lahko v zimskem casu na Solcavskem tudi smucate. Ski enthusiasts can ski above the campsite in the central tract of Logarska Dolina as well as at the Ložekar farm on the Panoramic Road above the Matkov Kot Valley.

Ski touring

Ski touring takes place off of the conventional marked ski slopes and offers not only skiing but also the opportunity to enjoy other experiences (the snowy plains, wildlife and some spectacular views) that skiing on regular maintained slopes lacks. All of this and much more a skier may experience when skiing from the summit of Ojstrica into the Logarska dolina Valley; from Korošica (mountain lodge) to the Podvolovljek Valley, or from Savinjsko Sedlo (Savinja Saddle) to the Logarska Dolina. The most suitable time of year to embark on such skiing adventures is spring, when the snow is firm and the danger of avalanches is small.

Fun fact: Photo safari - To be able to take photographs of animals in their natural environment is the ultimate experience of nature, and the Solcava District can offer you such an experience. Through knowing the habitat as well as the habits and behaviour of certain species, one can encounter deer, chamois, ibex as well as numerous birds (including many birds of prey, as well as ptarmigan, capercaillie, grouse and owl...). But ATTENTION!, this is the home of all the animals, we are only their guests here.
